چکیده

Central venous catheter related complications are a large burden on our healthcare system. Many of these complications can be prevented by the use of proper technique. One methodology to aid in the teaching nontechnical aspects of procedures, serious games, has not been utilized in our field. The authors therefore set out to design a serious game aimed at teaching proper central venous catheter placement. The objective of this manuscript is to examine the challenges encountered while designing and executing our serious gaming trial. Ultimately, they found their game to be an effective teaching tool, although the game development phase of our study was long. The authors therefore concluded that serious gaming is an effective tool for teaching proper technique for the placement of central venous catheters. Reduction of central venous catheter associated blood stream infections following implementation of a resident oversight and credentialing policy

BACKGROUND This study assesses the impact that a resident oversight and credentialing policy for central venous catheter (CVC) placement had on institution-wide central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI). We therefore investigated the rate of CLABSI per 1,000 line days during the 12 months before and after implementation of the policy. METHODS This is a retrospective analysis of ...

Skin fold technique for central venous catheter fixation; Comparison with conventional method for postopration infections

Background: Central Venous Catheters (CVCs) are used not only as a tool to access to central venous system, but also for hemodynamic monitoring, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy and hemodialysis. The use of CVCs is associated with some complications notably infections that are troublesome both to patient and physician. We conducted this study to examine catheter fixation with skin fold techni...

Ultrasound detection of guidewire position during central venous catheterization.

INTRODUCTION Ultrasound guidance decreases complications of central venous catheter (CVC) placement, but risks of arterial puncture and inadvertent arterial catheter placement exist. Ultrasound-assisted detection of guidewire position in the internal jugular vein could predict correct catheter position before dilation and catheter placement. METHODS Ultrasound examinations were performed in a...
